Celebrating the 26th Annual Día de los Muertos Festival with a Focus on Healthy Living and a Green Environment

Austin, TX – August 28, 2009: Mexic-Arte Museum, the Official Mexican and Mexican American Fine Art Museum of Texas, will be celebrating its 26th Annual Día de los Muertos – Austin’s largest and longest-running Day of the Dead festival featuring Latino artists and entertainment, an exhibition, and educational programs in the heart of downtown. Part of the proceeds will benefit the education programs of Mexic-Arte Museum, whose mission is to enrich the community through education programs and exhibitions focusing on traditional and contemporary Mexican, Latino, and Latin American art and culture.

This year, Mexic-Arte Museum will present Día de los Muertos as Viva la Vida Fest to celebrate life by promoting health and environmental awareness through art and culture. Mexic-Arte Museum’s Viva la Vida Fest brings together a diversity of people in Austin to pay homage to friends, family, and heroes. The festival features an exhibition of contemporary art and community altars constructed out of recycled materials, an exhibition of pre-Columbian funeral art from West Mexico, education programs, a grand procession with costumes and props, and a street celebration with traditional foods, hands-on art activities, artist demos, local retail booths, live music and performances.

So it’s official!! Peligrosa is moving to the Parish!! Bigger sound system, bigger dance floor, better party. Our first show is set for September 26th and we have been blessed to have two very special guests. The Que Bajo crew, Uproot Andy and Geko Jones will join Peligrosa to present, in full force, an evening you don’t want to miss it! The boys are responsible for New Yorks’ finest insemination Latin and Tropical dance parties at some of New Yorks’ finest establishments. Some of the people they represent include ZZK, dutty artz and Bersa Discos. Expect and audible and visual sensory-gasm.

In other great news, an official release of the Fun Fun Fun Fest line-up has been release today and Peligrosa is on board and in full effect. And maybe I’m not supposed to say anything but the after party for that is going to be just as big. Don’t worry, you’ll be invited.

After a long wait, the Fauna remix contest has ended and now we bring you 10 new remixes.

With over forty entries, the ZZK Crew had the tough task of choosing just ten. Fauna (Color_Kit and Catar_sys) Chancha Via Circuito, El Remolón, Villa Diamante, El G, Nim and DJ Uter each chose their favorites to create La Manita de Fauna Remixes, an album with 10 tracks that can be downloaded for free from ZZK Records.

While Fauna are touring Europe on their Summer Tour 09 and have played at the Roskilde Festival in Denmark and will play Sfinks in Belgium, C/O POP in Germany, the ICA in Boston and gigs in Barcelona, Berlin, Amsterdam. The tracks chosen are from the south of Gran Buenos Aires to Mendoza, Mexico City, Tokyo and cities in the U.S.
